Ann Knights
Ann’s creative interest began with her grandmother.
As a very young girl she taught her to knit, sew, weave and embroider. Making things with her hands. Walking with her she sensed and shared in her love of the Australian bush, the seaside and the natural world. She awoke a joy in creating and a pleasure in making.
Dabbling with a few short courses earlier in life. Interruptedwith raising a family and building up successful service businesses. In 2018 Ann joined the School of Art and Clay and her journey into ceramics began in earnest. Ceramic art for Ann is about interpreting the peace and pleasure felt when out in the environment. Whether it be looking over misty mountains, seeing an old pier at the seaside or watching sunset over the cityscape. Much time is spent observing the beauty in the surrounding landscape. When making in clay there is a memory not always defined of something seen in the world around her. This is expressed in texture, colour and clay.
Looking into the inner surfaces and cracks. What’s inside, what’s below.
A contemplation of how nature creates a perfection of colour texture and form.
