Alan Cahill
As a furniture maker working with reclaimed Australian hardwood, my approach is driven by a respect for the natural environment and the principles of sustainability. Every piece has a story to tell, and my role as an artist is to bring those stories to life.
My process begins with the selection of the materials I use. I seek out reclaimed hardwoods from a variety of sources, including old buildings, bridges, and other structures. Each piece of wood has a unique character and history, and I work to preserve that character and tell its story through my designs.
My work is characterized by clean lines, simple forms, and a focus on the natural beauty of the materials I use. I aim to create pieces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
“I want to show off the beauty of Australian timbers through practical pieces of furniture. Each piece is always different so it constantly feels like a mini adventure - never knowing exactly how each piece will look.”
