Diana Stubbings
I grew up in Melbourne and from a young age, art creation has always had a big presence in my life. As a child I was always aware of the invisible realms and enchanted by myths, fairy tales, nature and the ocean.
Art was my solace and my sanity and I would spend hours, expressing and creating the world of my imagination through drawings and colours.
Later on I studied formally at Ballarat University, studying painting and sculpture. Although I still loved the creative process. I found myself disappointed with the mainstream academic system and its approach to art. Later on still, I returned to university, this time studying a Masters in art therapy at La Trobe University. Suddenly I was in a realm where artistically I was UN bounded by no rules. The freedom to express in how ever I wanted was very freeing. The impact of trusting my intuition through the art process has never left me and continues to grow and expand. It’s this same intuitive process with art that I now share with others through workshops and private sessions.
Artist Statement
Essentially I see myself as a messenger of images, wisdoms and dreams from other realms. The mediums I have explored and continue to express and develop, include, paintings, felt making and mixed media. Also papier mache sculpture and doll making. Through these last two, I am fascinated with creating 3D images that embody a sense of self and spirit of nature.
My paintings I call, “postcards from beyond the veil”. In all of my art mediums it is my intention to make the experience of connection, magic and creativity manifest in the world and so connecting us back with our Magical Inner child and soul.
